Antique Georgian Amethyst Paste Engraved Ornate Foiled Back Necklace 1890.
It is adorned with 22 beautiful, rich purple Paste Stones, with 21 smaller Paste Stones that are nested in-between, all set in Base Metal.
Paste is hand-cut glass that has been polished with metal powder until it shimmers like a gemstone. They are also a transparent flint glass that stimulates the fire and brilliance of gemstones, because they have a relatively high indices of refraction and a strong dispersion.
The reverse of the necklace is beautifully engraved
showing brilliant craftsmanship from the era.
Weighs 33.3 grams.
Measures 15.5 inches in length.
Each Paste Stone measures 13mm across x 8mm down.
Very good all round condition considering the age.
